Giovanni Pinarello in Maglia Nera, Giro d’Italia 1951
Giovanni Pinarello (Team Bottecchia) in Maglia Nera, Giro d’Italia 1951. Giovanni Pinarello was the last winner of the Maglia Nera. In 1952, Giovanni was preparing to ride the Giro d’Italia again, but at the very last moment, he was requested to give his spot to the young Pasquale Fornara. Giovanni was disappointed, but his team offered 100,000 pounds to set aside, a considerable sum of money for those times. This money was used to bear the fruit of what shall be the crown of his dreams: opening a small bike workshop in order to build his own bicycles. In 1953, in Treviso, Cicli Pinarello was born. He went on to equip several winners of the vastly more coveted maglia rosa.
