Team Sky will use new Pinarello DOGMA K8-S on the cobbles

Pinarello has revealed DOGMA K8-S: it is a road bike with a rear suspension. Team Sky will use the new bike at the cobbled classics including the “Queen of the Classics”, the Paris-Roubaix.

The new DOGMA K8-S front triangle is similar to the one of DOGMA F8. Geometries are just slightly modified, for better riding on rough terrain, whereas the rear triangle changes, thanks to the new suspension DSS 1.0 (Dogma Suspension System) and new flat chain stays FLEXSTAYS™.

The DOGMA K8-S is the result of a specific request of Team Sky: to have an innovative frame able to reduce the psycho-physical stress of the athletes, and thus increase the performance in the cobbled classics, especially Paris-Roubaix, “Hell of the North”.

The new Dogma K8-S has been tested on the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix by the Team Sky riders Bradley Wiggins and Christian Knees. Accourding the Pinarello, the result was brilliant:

“After laboratory tests, which ensured safety and efficiency of the new frame, we tested the new DOGMA K8-S covering the last 130km of the Paris-Roubaix route, with Sir Bradley Wiggins and Christian Knees. Over long and regular cobbles sectors, we performed comparative tests with the previous DOGMA K. Both frames had accelerometers, powermeters and GPS instrumentation.”

“The results obtained were astonishing: simplifying, we can say that after repeated runs on the cobble sectors, with both bikes, the new DOGMA K8-S allowed an 8% increase in speed, while expending 10% less energy (data provided by JAGUAR-LAND ROVER).”

Sir Bradley Wiggins adds:

“I’ve never ridden anything like it on the cobbles before, which is the most extreme terrain you can ride a bike on. The way it feels, its aerodynamics, stiffness, and improved flex in the rear, is game-changing for cycling.”

The weight of the frame (size 53), complete with suspension, is 990 grams. The suspension unit itself weighs 95 grams.

While developing the bike, the Italian manufacturer worked with the Jaguar and Land Rover engineers.

Pinarelo also announces that the DOGMA K8, a second version without suspension, will also be available soon.
