He is cofounder and musical director of the Chilean group Inti-Illimani Histórico. He has a huge repertory of compositions that involves folk, Andean music, protest music, world music, contemporary classical music, and many Latin American styles and fusions.

Horacio Salinas (birth: 8 July 1951, Lautaro, Chile) is a Chilean guitarist and composer. He is co-founder and musical director of the Chilean group Inti-Illimani Histórico. He has a huge repertory of compositions that involves folk, Andean music, protest music, world music, fusion, contemporary classical music, and many Latin American styles and fusions.

He has played with Paco Peña and John Williams. In 1973, his group was touring in Europe when Pinochet seized power in Chile, after which they had to stay in exile for years.

The music is in the life of Horacio Salinas starting from his childhood. Already in Lautaro, his hometown, his father took him to ccordion classes. But he was better in classical guitar than the accordion. He began studying at age 14 and continued later at the Conservatory of Music of the University of Chile.

His solo career lasted not much more, he started to working with Cgilean group Inti-Illimani in 1967. Horacio Salinas became the composer and arranger of much of the repertoire of the group.

His career in Inti-Illimani is transferred to the group’s numerous albums, but his artwork does not end at Inti-Illimani. In fact, he has composed many works, among which include the Suite of Time Away, which he dedicated to John Williams’ music for the film La Colonia, Orlando Luberth, music for a Finnish filmmaker and a film of the RAI, plus from the soundtrack of the documentary on the life Larraín Ricardo Cardinal Raúl Silva Henríquez. He also composed the soundtrack for the movie Subterra Chilean.

He is considered one of the main members of Inti-Illimani with Max Berrú, Horacio Durán, José Miguel Camus, Jorge Coulon and Jose Seves.

Following his departure from Inti-Illimani in 2001, Salinas definitely solo debut album in oars, with a gang of his son Camilo Salinas pianist, bassist Fernando Julio (then in Los Impossibles), percussionist George Ball (also former musician Inti-Illimani) and young drummer trained in Latin American Fusion Danilo Donoso. The project highlighted the presence of various Latin American rhythms and the absence of instruments distinguished Andean origin group Nueva Canción Chilena.
