Fabian Cancellara, the great Swiss cycling champion will be the new Selle Italia brand ambassador with a direct commitment to the development of new products, up to the creation of a dedicated “FC” collection. The partnership will be extended also to all the “Chasing Cancellara” events and with a particular focus on supporting youth cycling through the Swiss Racing Academy.

Here is the press release by Selle Italia:

Selle Italia Alongside Fabian Cancellara: From The Product Development To A Collaboration In “chasing Cancellara” Events And The Swiss Racing Academy

Time trials were his competition ground and thanks to four-time trial world championships and two Olympic gold medals, Fabian Cancellara earned the nickname ‘Bern Locomotive’ which is sometimes replaced with ‘Spartacus’ in memory of the three victories at the Paris Roubaix and the same number at the “Ronde Van Vlaanderen” (Tour of Flanders), to which is added the success at the Milano-Sanremo in 2008. The Swiss champion retired from racing at the end of the 2016 season but remained in the cycling world as a protagonist of numerous events that bear his name and a project aimed at growing the new generations.

It is on the basis of this continuous commitment that, from next January, Fabian Cancellara becomes an ambassador for Selle Italia.

“There’s a common path that unites the great Swiss champion and our company” – said Nicola Baggio, General Manager of Selle Italia – “Besides the collaboration for the development of new products, we will be present – for the next two years – at all the Chasing Cancellara events and we’ll directly support to the Swiss Racing Academy team“.

The “Bern locomotive” will not be a mere testimonial of Selle Italia, but Fabian asked to be involved in the development of new saddles, thinking about the creation of a “Fabian Cancellara Collection”, the result of the union between the great champion’s experience and the know-how of the Asolo based company.

“I am really happy to return to the Selle Italia Family. After many touchpoints during my active career, it’s now a pleasure to work with Selle Italia to develop new, amazing products and to integrate Selle Italia into our amateur cycling series Chasing Cancellara” declared Fabian Cancellara.

Alongside Chasing Cancellara and the Swiss Racing Academy

To remain connected with the world of cycling and – at the same time – involve the public of amateurs, Fabian has developed the “Chasing Cancellara” project in which enthusiasts and fans can challenge their champion in a sort of ‘pro-am’ by bike on some of the routes that made him famous during his career.

In addition, Fabian has become a mentor to the athletes of the Swiss Racing Academy with the aim of promoting young Swiss talents in the world of two wheels.

Selle Italia will be the official supplier of both the Chasing Cancellara circuit and the Swiss Racing Academy. Thanks to a calendar of five events, through Chasing Cancellara, the Italian company will be able to get in touch with amateurs who compete on the most iconic paths of Cancellara’s career, and notoriously it is an audience of extremely qualified and competent users. On the Swiss Racing Academy front, the Treviso-based company will provide saddles and assistance to all team athletes: this activity is part of the support for new potential cycling talents, a commitment that Selle Italia and Fabian Cancellara share.
