In fact, Fausto became the World Champion in 1953, two years after his brother’s death.
Serse Coppi was born in Castellania on 9 March 1923.
His greatest victory was 1949 Paris-Roubaix, when he was placed equal winner with André Mahé after controversy.
Serse died on 29 June 1951 after crashing in the final sprint of the Giro del Piemonte, when his wheel was caught in the tracks of the Turin tramway. He was 28.
