Santini has created three special edition jerseys celebrating the UCI Road World Championships which take place this year in Yorkshire in Great Britain. The colors of the Union Jack and the legendary rainbow stripes feature both technical and casual wear. An inspired and inspiring capsule collection celebrating the Road World Championship in which Yorkshire-native and new mum Lizzie Deignan will be battling to take the rainbow jersey on home ground.
For many years, Santini has partnered with the world cycling federation, UCI, as the official supplier of the World Champion jersey that winners get to wear for an entire year. In recent seasons, however, the Bergamo cycling wear company has raised the bar still further by producing collections inspired by the championships.
It is now launching a special capsule collection dedicated to Yorkshire, which plays host to the 2019 UCI Road World Championships between September 22 and 29. The collection comprises three jerseys, bib shorts, and coordinating accessories as well as casual wear. Santini is celebrating the World Championship’s return to Great Britain after a 37-year absence with a range inspired by the Union Jack and also featuring the legendary rainbow stripes.
UJACK
The UJACK jersey is named after the eponymous Union Jack or Union Flag which was thus named because it is made up of the flags of the countries in the United Kingdom: England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. The front of the jersey features the outline of the Union Jack in an elegant navy blue with the World Champion colors at its center. The official 2019 World Championship logo features on the right-hand breast also. This classic-fit jersey has ultralight mesh fabric sides for maximum breathability. There is also a silicone gripper at the hem to stop it from riding up.
The jersey is also available for children from five to 13 years and also a baby version for one to two-year-olds. Santini has also created navy blue bib shorts and accessories to coordinate with this and the other jerseys.
NATIO
The NATIO has a background in the royal blue used in the Union Jack with the official event logo on both the breast and back. “I chose the colors of the British flag for this jersey: at the center, red, blue, and white alternate in a five-line design to reflect the five World Championship colors,” says Fergus Niland, Creative Director at Santini. “That section features a pattern made up of lots of small Ys. Y is the symbol used for Yorkshire in the official World Championship logo”. The inside collar and back of the jersey also feature details from the flag. The slim-cut NATIO jersey is made from Kenobi and Ritmo Shangtun, both fabrics that guarantee superb breathability, stretch, and comfort.
LEGAC
The blue of the Yorkshire flag also features in the LEGAC jersey which has thin white and blue stripes on its sleeves and a small stylized rose on the side. This is another reference to Yorkshire as the white rose is the symbol of the House of York. At the base of the collar at the back of the jersey, there is also a Y with the World Championship colors, part of the official 2019 logo for the latter.
For cyclists that want to sport the rainbow stripes off as well as on their bikes, there is also a casual wear line comprising t-shirts and sweatshirts featuring the outline of the Union Jack.
The line will be available online from the Santini Cycling website and select cycling stores worldwide from May 31, 2019.
LIZZIE X SANTINI
Also on the starting blocks at this year’s Yorkshire World Championships will be 2015 Champion Lizzie Deignan, who is both a member of the Trek-Segafredo women’s team and a Santini ambassador. As a Yorkshire native, Lizzie is particularly excited about this particular Championship. She is also relishing the challenge as she only returned to competition after having her first child, on April 21 when she sported the Santini Trek-Segafredo jersey for the first time.
Lizzie has spoken about her experience as a woman, athlete, and mother in a series of videos made with Santini. In the latest in the series, “The Next Race”, Lizzie discusses how it is possible to be a professional cyclist and a mother, as she looks forward to embracing new challenges in both her personal and professional life and returning to winning form.
About Santini Brand
Santini Maglificio Sportivo was founded in 1965 by Pietro Santini who spotted a market for technical cycling clothing as a result of his abiding passion for the sport and competition. In what would seem like a revolutionary and contrarian choice today, the Bergamo-based company made the pivotal decision to design and manufacture all of its products exclusively in Italy. Each item is designed and developed by a design team with a deep-rooted passion for the two-wheel world to meet four key requirements: fit, performance, comfort, and durability.
Santini currently produces 3,000 items of clothing per day and exports 80% of its output. It is deeply committed to ongoing investment in researching and developing innovative textiles and new production methods. However, people – athletes – remain its central focus as it continues to refine its creations to allow cyclists to pursue their sporting passions in the comfortable but inimitably stylish kit.
