Current UCI World Champion Rui Costa is the new member of the Italian team Lampre-Merida. The Portuguese will wear the rainbow jersey this year, except time trials, and ride a Merida Reacto EVO Team, in custom-made rainbow colors.
Today’s quote is from Tyler Hamilton. Hamilton was a teammate of banned cyclist Lance Armstrong during 1999, 2000, and 2001 Tour de France where Armstrong won the Yellow jersey. He is the only American rider to win one of the Five Monuments of Cycling (Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2003). Unfortunately, he was doping when he won the race, like the vast majority of the pro peloton, in the “dark ages of cycling”.

Lotto-Belisol 2014 jersey has a retro look, and it is red and white in color. The Belgian team revealed the new kit on their website and stated that “With ten riders leaving and nine newcomers the team will be partly different in the upcoming cycling year. That’s why there was chosen for a restyling of the shirt and the team will have a new look!”

Nibali was in Izmir, Turkey
2013 Giro d’Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali was in Izmir (Turkey). In a La Gazzetta dello Sport organization, around 100 riders including Nibali, are traveling by ship and riding their bikes where they visit. The last stop was Izmir, Turkey’s third-biggest city, near the Aegean sea. They rode through Menemen, Manisa, then returned back to Izmir.
I spent my childhood in Menemen, a small district of Izmir. I rode my bike over the very same course for years. Unfortunately, I was not there this time; in fact, I didn’t know there was such an event, so I missed the opportunity to ride with a Giro winner. (Photos: Şafak İnce)

End of an era. Euskaltel-Euskadi is set to close its doors at the end of the 2013 season, after failing to secure sufficient sponsorship funds to continue. Spain’s financial crisis ends the Basque team’s 19-year association with top-flight cycling. The riders and team staff were now told that they must look elsewhere.
