Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the president of Turkmenistan went on a bicycle ride this morning. He was greeted by many hundreds of people forced to stand clapping for him and to join him on his ride as dancers and singers performed along his route.
To be fair, this is not an everyday bike ride. It seems it’s a national celebration – the speaker says “bahar bayramı” – which can be translated as “spring celebration”.
The Turkmen dictator is obsessed with cyclişng. Back in 2013, he literally urged the entire country to buy one. See: “On your bikes! Turkmenistan president orders entire nation to saddle up for national cycling day” on the Independent website.
Born on June 29, 1957, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has been serving as the president of Turkmenistan since February 2007.
