Entries for the 2021 Granfondo Stelvio Santini open on October 28th, with a special early bird price until the end of the year

October 28th marks the start of the race to snap up a bib for the 2021 edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini: between then and the end of the year, 1,500 bibs will be available at a special early bird price of just 70 euro. From January 1st, 2021 to the close of entries, it will cost 90 euro to secure your place.

Once again next year, all competitors must wear the official Santini jersey included in the race pack, throughout the event. The same three race routes, all with finish lines at the top of the Stelvio Pass, also return.

The Granfondo Stelvio Santini ROUVY challenge opens in November: anyone that completes all three virtual climbs on the famous indoor cycling platform wins a Finisher badge.

The Granfondo Stelvio Santini makes a very welcome return in 2021 and, as ever, takes place on the first Sunday in June. The scene of one of the most exciting stages in the recent Giro d’Italia, the Stelvio is preparing to welcome cyclists from all over the world on June 6th, 2021. Entries for this epic Granfondo open tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28th, and the various methods of securing your bib are outlined on the Granfondo Stelvio Santini official website (www.granfondostelviosantini.com).

The entry procedure of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini

Entries for the Granfondo Stelvio Santini are time-sensitive: 1,500 bibs are available at a special early bird price of just 70 euro from Wednesday, October 28th, to the end of the year. Then, from January 1st 2021 until all of the bibs have been snapped up, the entry price is 90euro.

The official jersey

Once again this year, all competitors must wear the official jersey throughout the event.

“This decision is a way of ensuring participants feel they are genuine protagonists and totally involved in the race”, explained Paola Santini, Marketing Manager at Santini Cycling Wear. “It also helps the organizers recognize the competitors and guarantees safety along the various routes”.

The official jersey, which is included in the race pack, is made by Santini Cycling Wear in different sizes and colours for men and women (just over 5.5% of the finishers in the 2018 edition were women). It also underscores the importance of imbuing a sense of unity with the competition and will be checked by volunteers at the start line.

All of the cyclists that cross the finish line at the top of the Stelvio Pass will also a receive a special cap with the word “Finisher” emblazoned on the front that also coordinates with the jersey.

Three routes, three challenges

Once again this year, there will be three race routes: the 151.3km long route with a 4,000-metre-plus elevation change for cyclists with strong legs and big hearts, the 137.9km medium route that cuts out the gruelling Mortirolo climb, and the 60km short route that still delivers an elevation change of just under 2,000m.

The final classifications have not changed either. The first, divided according to the three routes, is calculated on the sum of the times riders deliver for the various time trials for each route. The men’s and women’s winners in each category are presented with the polka dot Granfondo Stelvio Santini King and Queen of the Mountain.

There will also be overall King and Queen of the Mountain jerseys for each individual climb (Teglio, Mortirolo, and Stelvio). Lastly, the teams with the largest number of entrants and the highest number of finishers will also win prizes. There is no overall classification – the start-to-finish times of all the finishers will, however, be published in alphabetical order.

The virtual Granfondo Stelvio Santini on ROUVY

This year, there is also a “virtual Granfondo Stelvio Santini” and cyclists can tackle the iconic climbs of the Granfondo from the comfort of their own homes: the indoor cycling platform ROUVY has rendered the Teglio, Mortirolo, and Stelvio climbs for the challenge and anyone that finishes all three will be awarded a Finisher badge.

The challenge will be accessible on both the granfondostelviosantini.com and rouvy.com websites from November 2020.
