Unfortunately, Granfondo Stelvio Santini 2020 was canceled due to coronavirus, but entries will be valid for the 2021 edition. Santini Cycling Wear and US Bormiese have announced the cancellation of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini 2020 edition because of the healthcare crisis in Italy and across the world caused by the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Athletes that purchased bibs for the cycling event can, however, use them for the 2021 edition.
To support the Bormio and the Valtellina areas in tackling the COVID-19 emergency, Santini will be donating 5,000 of the masks it is making to the not-for-profit “Insieme per Vincere” organization.
Santini Cycling Wear and US Bormiese have canceled the 2020 edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini scheduled for Sunday, June 7, as a result of the healthcare crisis caused by the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“It is with great sadness that we are announcing this decision – said Paola Santini, marketing manager at Santini Cycling Wear – because the Granfondo Stelvio Santini is more than just an event to us: it is now part of our life, our work. An event that goes well beyond the competitive aspect”.
It was a tough but inevitable decision forced on the organizers by the gravity of the overall situation.
“It is the result of long, difficult reflection that highlighted the fact that we must give utmost priority to the health of the public, the competitors, their support teams, and all the rest of the organizational staff – continued Mario Zangrando who organizes the Valtellina event with U.S. Bormiese – This must come first at this particular time and has resulted in us making the decision to cancel the 2020 edition of our Granfondo”.
This focus on health also led Santini and U.S. Bormiese to decide to donate 5,000 masks that the company is now making to the Valtellina-based not-for-profit “Insieme per Vincere” organization, for distribution in that area.
With regard to cyclists that have already purchased a bib for the 2020 Granfondo Stelvio Santini, the organizers have guaranteed the latter will count as their entry for next year’s event. In addition to this, entrants who pre-ordered or purchased Santini merchandising for the 2020 edition will be given credit for 2021 Granfondo Stelvio Santini merchandising.
