Alex Zanardi will be on a hand bike in Paralympics 2012

Alex Zanardi (Alessandro Zanardi), the former F1 driver is a gold medal contender at the London Paralympics, eleven years after losing his legs. The 45-year-old Italian knows the track inside out from his days driving around it at 320kph (200mph).

Cannondale Caad10 2013

The last generation of CAAD, Cannondale Caad10 2013, Cannondale’s most popular aluminum frame series, CAAD10 has a 1,050g frame. This is even lighter than some carbon frames on the market. Compared to the 2012 edition, the 2013 frame hasn’t changed at all, but there are more build options available.

Cannondale is producing the award-winning CAAD (Cannondale Advanced Aluminum Design) series of road bikes since 1983. CAAD10 is the current generation of Cannondale aluminum frame.

Trek Madone 2013: Stiffer, Lighter, More Aero

Trek Madone 2013 series are coming with improvements to aerodynamics, weight, and stiffness. 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7-series are OCLV carbon, while 2 series are alloy. The top of the line model, Trek Madone 7.9, at 40 kph in a 10° crosswind, and the producer claims to save 25 watts over the prior model (distance not specified). In addition to the aerodynamic improvements, frame weight has dropped down to 750 grams (7-series) (from 915g to 750g, a 165g savings). Compared to the previous 7 series of Trek Madone, it cuts almost 200 grams from the frame and fork without diminishing ride quality or stiffness.

Trek Madone 6 and 7 series continue to be “Made in the United States”.

Cannondale SuperSix Evo Nano

Cannondale’s high-end frameset SuperSix Evo is now even lighter: the new Cannondale SuperSix Evo Nano frameset has a claimed weight of 645 grams. SuperSix frames are in Cannondale’s product family since 2006. The SuperSix Evo was launched last year. And for 2013, the new SuperSix, “Evo Nano” was announced.

Cycling technology is on Mars

On August 6, 2012, at 05:17 UTC, NASA’s Curiosity rover has landed successfully on Aeolis Palus in Gale Crater on Mars. The U.S. bicycle manufacturer Litespeed has been a contractor and consultant to NASA for projects that require titanium-intensive sub-assemblies including the landing gear on the Curiosity.
