On February 17, 2012, Marchand rode 24.25 kilometers (15.1 miles), setting a one-hour speed record in the new over-100s category created by the UCI. Tomorrow, almost two years later, he’s aiming to exceed 25 km on the new velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, just outside Paris.
Paul Kimmage, journalist and former pro cyclist, has doubts about Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky, suggests that their dominance at Tour de France 2012 is suspicious.
Previously, during the Tour de France in July, Kimmage has said that he believes Team Sky was not as transparent as they promised when the team was founded. He had added that: “People ask me how I feel about Wiggins leading the Tour de France – I don’t know, I can’t answer the question. When asked about doping, the answers from Wiggins now sound the same as with Armstrong and Floyd.”
Qhubeka
Today, I want to tell you about Qhubeka. Qhubeka is a South-Africa based volunteer organization aim to help rural communities move forward and progress by giving bicycles to children in return for work done to improve their environment and their community.
Qhubeka is an Nguni (Zulu, Xhosa) word that means “to carry on”, “to progress”, “to move forward”.
Giuseppe Marinoni, the famous Italian framebuilder, broke the hour record for the 74-79 age group on October 20. He broke the record in Brescia, Italy. Marinoni covered 35.728 km in one hour.
