The first professional world championship took place in July 1927 at the Nürburgring in Germany, where legendary Italian Alfredo Binda won the professional men’s race.

Santini and the UCI renew their partnership and reveal the new ecological UCI World Champion jerseys

Santini Cycling Wear and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) are pleased to announce that they have signed a partnership agreement for another four-year period (2021-2024). The announcement comes during the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Imola, Italy. From 2021 onwards, the partnership will see the introduction of the new ecological UCI World Champion jersey for all disciplines made exclusively of sustainable fabrics and delivered in compostable packaging. Additionally, Santini becomes the Official Provider of UCI merchandising. The two partners will release two separate merchandising lines including a series of products and accessories featuring the UCI logo and the rainbow stripes, the symbol of the UCI World Championships.

102-year-old Robert Marchand to attempt to break his own Hour Record

102-year-old Robert Marchand still holds the Hour Record (see notes 1) for the 100+ age group. Tomorrow, the evergreen Frenchman will attack his own record.

On February 17, 2012, Marchand rode 24.25 kilometers (15.1 miles), setting a one-hour speed record in the new over-100s category created by the UCI. Tomorrow, almost two years later, he’s aiming to exceed 25 km on the new velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, just outside Paris.

Kimmage has doubts about Wiggins and Team Sky

Paul Kimmage, journalist and former pro cyclist, has doubts about Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky, suggests that their dominance at Tour de France 2012 is suspicious.

Previously, during the Tour de France in July, Kimmage has said that he believes Team Sky was not as transparent as they promised when the team was founded. He had added that: “People ask me how I feel about Wiggins leading the Tour de France – I don’t know, I can’t answer the question. When asked about doping, the answers from Wiggins now sound the same as with Armstrong and Floyd.”

Qhubeka is an Nguni (Zulu, Xhosa) word that means “to carry on”, “to progress”, “to move forward”.

Marinoni broke the Hour Record for the 74-79 age group

Giuseppe Marinoni, the famous Italian framebuilder, broke the hour record for the 74-79 age group on October 20. He broke the record in Brescia, Italy. Marinoni covered 35.728 km in one hour.
