Miguel Induráin (Spain) won the Vélo d'Or award twice (in 1992 and 1993). He was also second in 1993 and 1994. Induráin won the Tour de France five times, from 1991 to 1995, becoming the fourth cyclist to achieve this (Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, and Bernard Hinault). In 1992, Induráin achieved prestigious Giro-Tour double, which considered the most difficult combination of any races in pro cycling (no rider has ever won all three grand tours in a single year). He also won the Volta a Catalunya and became the Spanish national road champion. He was the 1st Overall UCI Road World Rankings. In 1993, he repeated the Giro-Tour double, another first in cycling history. He also won the Vuelta Castilla y Leon and became second in the UCI Road World Championships. According to reports published on cycling news today, 5-time Tour de France winner Miguel Indurain and his Banesto team worked with Dr. Francesco Conconi in the nineties.

Cycling News wrote today that highly respected Italian anti-doping expert Sandro Donati claims to have evidence that Indurain and his Banesto team worked with Dr. Francesco Conconi in the nineties. Donati told nos.nl that Conconi “had contracts with Banesto for high amounts.” (Sandro Donati now works as a researcher with the WADA – World Anti-Doping Agency)

Campagnolo has revealed the 80th Anniversary Groupset. The group is mechanical, has the quality of Super Record level but labeled 80th Anniversary group with a Matte finish. The limited production will be available this spring.

There’s also an 80th Anniversary wheelset released by the Italian brand. The wheelset has two options: Bora Ultra II or Bullet Ultra but named “80th Anniversary” with Matte finishing. These can be ordered with the group set or separately.

Giro d'Italia 2014 route wheel (cropped) — From Friday, May 9th to Sunday, June 1st, 2014, the 97th edition of Giro d'Italia will start from Belfast and will arrive in Trieste. Giro d'Italia is an annual multiple stage bicycle race held in Italy. Giro d'Italia is part of the UCI World Tours and makes up the three-week-long Grand Tours, sitting alongside the prestigious Tour de France and Vuelta a España.

Giro d’Italia is going to Ireland for its “Grande Partenza” in 2014. The 97th running of the Italian Grand Tour will also visit Armagh and Dublin.

Another Women’s cycling team is presented: Servetto-Footon. The Italian based team is a four-year project, means the sponsorship will continue until the end of 2016.

The team contains ten athletes total. The athletes are: Alessia Aimone Secat, Simona Bortolotti, Veronica Cornolti, Corinna Defile, Isabella Ferrari, Marina Lari, Marta Manitto, Giorgia Nanni, Maria Cristina Nisi and Roberta Tasca.
